Hearing of the new threat from what’s being called “COVID-19” has made us just a little annoyed at the apparent inaction shown by ICE, the U.S. Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland Security. Whether it’s really a threat of Chinese origin, or one we can’t yet trace to a specific geographical source, where it came from isn’t all that important anymore. We need to find out what happened when COVID-19 arrived at the border, and make sure it doesn’t happen again.
We know that lax immigration policy and mollycoddling liberal attitudes allowed MS-13 — that gang of ruthless Salvadoran immigrants — to run rampant in the formerly bucolic suburbs of western Long Island. Even covered in hideous tattoos and speaking virtually no English, they were somehow allowed into the country, and have been hellbent on conducting a campaign of murder and drug abuse ever since. How that happened is a matter of public record, and a few sensible voices have placed blame squarely where it belongs: on Hillary Clinton, her emails, Benghazi and Common Core math.
Now comes this newest foreign scourge, something called COVID-19. We’re not sure how those other terrorists got their name of MS-13, but this new threat’s name is equally cryptic, and we now know that COVID-19 is the vastly greater threat to national security and order. Most maddening is that there seems to have been little done when there might have actually been a chance to stop COVID-19 at the border back in January.
It can’t have been that hard to identify the threat posed by COVID-19. We concede that there aren’t tattoos and Spanish language clues available when monitoring microscopic terrorists, but you can’t tell us that high-powered microphones couldn’t have detected tiny, high-pitched Chinese conversations or evil viral plans when our border was being breached. And one supposes there were the usual gang signs, graffiti and testosterone-fueled boasting when — or if — COVID-19 gang members were interviewed by INS agents at the border. Yes, these bad hombres are small, but small threats require small-minded vigilance.
Unfortunately, no one is sure how large this COVID-19 gang really is. MS-13 membership seems to be in the neighborhood of 10,000 individuals, which itself constitutes a huge threat. Alarmingly, we’ve heard COVID-19 numbers speculated to be in the trillions. Imagine any vigilant border security apparatus allowing trillions of potentially deadly foreigners into a sovereign nation without a single red flag being raised. It’s unconscionable and quite possibly criminal.
We at The Post-Industrial Post demand accountability in this matter of the COVID-19 threat. Whoever this COVID-19 turns out to be, it’s obviously a big problem, and heads need to roll for allowing it into the country in the first place. We place the blame squarely on Homeland Security. Or the State Department. Or the educational system. Or secular humanism. Or something, by God!
